Health.  A google search of the word brings up about 3,360,000,000 results.  There are over 475 million results for the word "diet."  We don't have a lack of health information in this country.

But, what we do have is a health problem.  According to the Journal of the American Medical Association, one-third of adults and 17% of children are obese (1).  This is in spite of the plethora of information, diet books, and weight loss programs that are available.  You don't feel good when you are overweight, and you probably don't like what you see when you look in the mirror.

But there is more to it than that. "Obesity-related conditions include heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer, some of the leading causes of preventable death. The estimated annual medical cost of obesity in the U.S. was $147 billion in 2008 U.S. dollars; the medical costs for people who are obese were $1,429 higher than those of normal weight" (2).

Weight is just one factor that is related to health.  What about lack of exercise?  Stress? Anxiety? Fatigue?  Poor nutrition?  Not enough sleep?  Not enough play?

It makes us feel sick just thinking about it.

I think that's where most of us shut down.  There is just way too much information, and too many conflicting facts, and we all just feel overloaded.  So, it's easier to do nothing about our health, and just hope our problems will all go away.

Except, doing nothing, results in...nothing.  Nothing changes.  And you know that change is what you wish for.  To feel better.  To go to the doctor less.  To lose some weight.  To cook healthier meals for you or your family.  To gain some energy.  To like yourself.

That's where a health coach comes in.  As a health coach, I won't "put you on a diet." I won't tell you to exercise for hours a day.  But, what I will do is listen.  And I'll help you set reasonable goals to slowly change those areas of your life that are keeping you from feeling your best.  I will be with you each step of the way, and will check up on you to keep you accountable to do what you know you need to do.  You won't be alone.

Together, we will navigate the confusing, often-time opposing "facts" to find a logical, sustainable way for you to eat.  We will work on balancing the other areas of your life; career, exercise, relationships, and spirituality.  You can begin to move toward a healthier "you."
